In a phone call this morning it was confirmed – “THE SIGN STAYS!” – Chris Ralph, VP of Leasing at Brixmor.

Britton Plaza will undergo redevelopment, and no, it won’t be “Midtown South Tampa.” The firm has a long history of upgrading shopping plazas to fit within existing communities.

Last month, in a recorded sale of $59,900,000, the iconic Britton Plaza traded hands. Brixmor, the new ownership, is one of the largest landlords of Publix in Florida.

We want to move forward “and be mindful of the historic nature of the property” “respect the history” and create an experience “relevant to the community,” -added Ralph, who has been with Brixmor for nearly 20 years.

“If you look at what we do (other shopping plazas), you’ll see how Britton Plaza will be upgraded and restored.” Pointing to Marco Island’s Brixmor Plaza. The build out clearly and appropriately matched Marco Island’s aesthetic, with coral stones and pastel colors- that same attention to the surrounding community can be expected at Britton Plaza.

As a Tampa native and lover of this town, I’m thrilled there is a recognition and appreciation of the historical nature of this property.

The Brixmor representative even mentioned using the iconic arch in branding and placement at the plaza, accentuating the historic arch’s importance to the community.

We now also know this will NOT be another “Midtown” type of development, it will be a restored and upgraded shopping plaza, with emphasis on a strong mix of tenants to service the community.
