Tampa General Hospital and USF Health have partnered with the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council to establish a world-class medical and research district in Tampa.

Between TGH’s main campus, the Kennedy Blvd corridor and Ybor City, a “triangle” of life science will begin to unfold.

The Flagship Building of this district is the Taneja Surgical, Neuroscience & Transplant Tower. You may have noticed on the northern tip of Davis Islands a large construction project: this is it. The tower includes: 13-stories, 565,000 sqft, 144 patient beds, 32 operating suites and increased intensive care unit capacity. In addition, there will be space for education and training, emergency response and sterile processing, along with two floors reserved for future growth. Estimated Completion: March 2027.

The Tampa Medical and Research District (TMRD) will be a massive economic engine for our community focusing on world class clinical care, medical research, innovation in life sciences, academics, and biotechnology. This district will elevate us in healthcare and foster job creation to support our region’s growth trajectories.

An economic impact study was conducted by The Washington Economics Group for the TMRD upon completion:

– $8.3 Billion Economic impact
– $4 Billion GDP
– $2.4 Billion Household Income Created
– $798 Million Tax Revenue Fed, State, Local
– 57,900 Jobs created and supported annually

I was born at Tampa General. It’s amazing to watch the growth unfold and I’m very excited about the benefits this district will bring our community for decades to come.
